Education

In Europe and America, education is high on the agenda for Duchenne patients. They stay engaged in life because they are intellectually able despite their physical disabilities. Where possible, they are supported to live independently and access university and are gaining degrees and even achieving doctorates, with some able to progress to careers in areas like Information Technology and law.

Duchenne children who have access to Personalised Education Plans to ensure that their changing needs are recognised and met are able to thrive and succeed in school. This involves the training and support of those involved in their education plus the provision of necessary adaptations and equipment to improve access to the learning environment.

In Iran, Duchenne children from disadvantaged communities are often denied access to education because of poor health, the lack of facilities to cater for disabled children in schools and the inability of parents to safely transport them there.
